This just in Re. Salmon Farms.....
Great News From Maine. A federal judge on Wednesday ruled that two large Salmon Farmers had to stop discharging polltants into the Atlantic and admonished the Goverment for being slow to respond!
U.S. District Court Judge Gene Carter also fined the two companies $50,000 each and ordered that they idle there operations for up to three years to allow the ocean floor to regenerate.
He also barred the farms from using salmon stocks from sources other than the North Atlantic.
The National Enviromental Law Center, representing the plantiffs applauded the ruling and predicted that it will have far reaching consequences.
"After todays ruling , salmon farming will never be the same" Said David Nichols of the center.:hehe:

This could be a big deal for the "best coast" too!

Great results, but it's depressing to see that a suit needs to be brought to court to achieve results that should have been imposed by the government.

I thought this was on the "best coast". ;) :p

Great news! it's about time. Why should they have any less restriction for dumping contaminants into our oceans than any other industry? Not to mention the ridiculous rate of escapism.

I am all for aquaculture, but the problem is that they have been operating with inadequate control of effluents, antibiotic / drug use, and escape prevention.

This is a great victory, I hope it will serve as a step forward to bring other farms into a more conscientious mode of operation.

Great news of a battle win. Sadly though, given the current administrations track record, the war may still be lost.

Viva La Salmon!
