I'm heading to St. Lucia the end of this month and I have NO idea as to what to fish for how. I'm bringing my fly rod and a floating and an intermeadite(sp?) line and I figured I'ld wait until I got there to buy any flies. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

I wouldn't count on being able to buy flies locally in the Caribean but you might get lucky.

For general prospecting in those parts I would go armed with a selection of crazy charlies, gotchas and small clousers. Add a few deceiver style flies and some wire for toothy critters and your well on your way.

Any of our forum members know the area?

What would you say for colors. Bright and flashy or more towards light browns or shrimp colors? I'll be a tying fool late into the night I got the feeling. Thanks for the pattern choices.

Color wise for the sand and mud flats tan shades and pinks work well - size 4s & 6s should be fine. For drop offs and deeper channels clousers & deceiver styles in various olive / brown / yellow / white combos seem to work well up to 4 or five inches.

Flashy ties can be useful occaisionally but I rarely found need for them. Even barracuda seem to prefer a more natural pattern most of the time. If you're trolling something behind a boat that might be different.
