Loomis nautikos

Just an FYI, Cabela's most recent winter sale catalogue has these rods on sale for about $150 off retail...a little over $300 for a 7-12 wt.

I have never cast one--anyone care to render an opionion on the rod and whether this is as good a deal as it sounds?

I don't know how long the sale lasts but if it'll work we should cast the heck out of them at Wilmington. Are you going?

Hi guys:
I haven't tried the Nautikos myself but I heard two bad reports on them. I did try a 6 weight Trilogy that I liked very much, although I thought it was more of a seven weight. Arrghh... I know this doesn't help... go cast the hell out of them.

yes I plan on going to Wilmington...I just don't know how much stock they have of these rods at Cabelas. So far I've heard they are very stiff, fast action tip flex rods with really strong butt sections that are great for fighting fish, but do not cast as nicely as the GLXs. I plan on casting one, but since they've been around for a year I thought somebody might have the skinny on them. See you at the show...

Here's the Loomis rod chart. Blue Northern is one of the Loomis dealers in the area BTW, so you might call Bob Desplaines if you have questions.

I don't know what's Cabelas or not but maybe it will help(?)

Proof's in da' puddin! I'll throw one at the show just to say I did http://216.71.206.188/images/flytalk/Wilk.gif

BTW - WOW what a savings! I'm surprised Gary allowed that. (I don't know him personally have seen him pften, he fished the same rivers as I did when I lived in Washington State)

RE:Loomis nautikos

I got a new 9 weight Nautikos last season. It is a great rod, albeit a cannon. This is the rod I use to toss LC-13 heads and it performs the job admirably. I wouldn't think of tossing a head like that on one of my GLXs for fear that it would rip the rod apart. The Nautikos is significantly heavier than the GLX and it simply "feels" bigger all around. I find I have to slow my casting stroke down considerably to get it to perform at its peak. This is a serious salt water rod and I would not recommend it for freshwater use, but for heaving heavy heads and large salt water patterns, it's a winner in my opinion. I think it casts very similar to the 10 weight T&T Horizon, if you care to use that as a reference.
