Good Dam News

Recieved the following note from the good folks at the MA river Restore Program, they are a componet of MA Riverways.

"Yokum Brook is flowing freely in its channel once more – the Silk Mill Dam was removed in February 2003. I have attached “before” and “after” photos for your enjoyment. The “after” photo was taken this past Saturday following snowmelt."

On April 24th Atlantic Salmon fry will be set free in the newly restored segment.

This is good stuff, seeing another miserable pile of industrial waste removed from one of our rivers.

Yokum Brook is a tributary of the West Branch of the Westfield River in Becket Ma.

Good news. Hopefully many more will follow.

Great News Tim! I hope we can make progress removing obstacles on the CT River over the years. The real issue on atlantic salmon restoration is 2-way passage for salmon over the numerous dams.
