Cozumel & Cancun Flyfishing

Just returned to Canada from Cozumel which has direct flights from Canada and the USA or a short ferry ride from Playa Del Carmen and taxi ride from Cancun. Did some great flyfishing in the northern flats with Gabriel Medina Diaz in Cozumel. The flats and lagoons around Cozumel are home to tarpon, bonefish, baby barracuda and permit with ample opportunity for a grand slam if your permit skills are up to it. I did catch some bonefish and baby barracuda and almost hooked a permit (maybe in my next life). If coming from Cancun its a 30 minute taxi ride ($20) to Playa Del Carmen and then a 30 minute ferry ($8.00) to Cozumel. Gabriel will meet you when you get off the ferry and he charges $275 for 5 hours and can be talked down to $200 if you are on your own. Ivan is his guide who speaks English and hand-makes some great flies.
Gabriel can also arrange deep sea fishing at the best prices in the area through his son-in-law.
