Fish Kills?

Just wondering how bad others think the fishkill will be this spring in the northeast when the ice finally melts off. The reason for my question is that I just did some practice casting at a pond near my office that is a late freeze/early melt pond and noticed a 18" carp belly up where the ice is starting to break up.

I hadn't even considered this....most of the ponds I fish have some very deep holes where fish can ride out the rough times, but one shallow pond in particular now has me wondering.

Something to consider. Let's hope for the best.

I have only seen this one time - on the Assabet river in Stow, MA. Took the rowboat out for some bass fishing and as I paddled upstream noticed belly up bluegills everywhere. Thought it might have been pollution but the bass seem to have survived OK and I know that river is now fairly healthy. Still kind of shocking to see but hey, at least the catfish were happy :D
