Florida's Gulf Coast "warming up"
Just thought y'all might like to know that fishing in the Sarasota/Venice/Ft. Myers/Chokoloskee area is getting pretty darn good now that the temps have been in the 80s for about a week.

Snook are back in Sarasota Bay. Lots of nice Spanish and very nice cobia in Chokoloskee. I'll be fishing Charlotte Harbor and Pine Island Sound Sunday and Monday, so I can give you a first-hand report after that. But some of the other guides who've been working down there the past few days have found lots of nice fish.

Man, it's been a loooooonggggg winter. Even down here in FL!!!
Glad it's over.

Hey Tony,
Thanks for the update; man, I can't wait to get down there full-time! Hopefully I'll have a chance to come down and survey the area for real estate, as well as wet the fly line, within the next few months. Maybe we can go out for an afternoon and chase the fish...

looooooooooonnnnnnggggg winter
Well, my plowing bill for Jan. and Feb. at my house in Michigan was $750 each. Does that count?

One of them BiPolar BestOfBothWorlds kinda' guys...Gotta' love it!
My place on the FarSide (of the Canal) is frozen solid and the snow is sticking around like an annoying inlaw...
Spring sure makes a BIG difference!

And in the days before mercury, phosphates, rotenone and
catch-and-release, you could eat the fish!

My brother who lives in Jupiter, Florida north of West Palm came up to NYC for a family event last week and met the the snow storm. He will not be back for a long time.

Got to head south down to see him maybe this year and bring the fly rods for sure.

PM Out

I'll be heading down to Fla mid april and was wondering what would be my best bet around pine island at that time of year.My dad has a place on lake okechobee(sp)and has land on pine island so i am hoping to head over to the island for some fishing.I know thats a ways off but it sure doesn't hurt to ask.

pine island fishing
Jeff-Nearly everything will be happening in mid-April. A fantastic time to fish for snook, redfish (lots of tailing fish), trout, jacks--heck, everything except maybe tarpon. The poons don't usually show up until the very end of April or beginning of May.

Bring an 8wt and 9wt rod, lots of Clouser-style flies in various color combinations #4; small crabs in tan, brown and olivish; unweighted "fiber" minnows with doll eyes in tan/white with a bit of "flash"; smallish poppers for the jacks.

I'm booked for a lot of April, but have a few days open at the very middle of the month, just before Easter. It's a fine time to be at Pine Island, my friend!
