I will be in Newport last week in Sept/first week in Oct. What can I expect the fishing to be. Are there any guides that fish the salt ponds (Pt Judith etc) and will that be produtive? My wife has adversion to going out in Bay! Thanks for any info you can provide.

One of our sponsors, Capt. Bob Hines, specializes in fishing the salt ponds. You can get contact info for him at www.flyfishri.com.
The ponds will have fish, but the better fishing at that point in the season will probably be at the mouths of the breachways and along the beaches themselves.
Actually during our Rhody claves some of the best fishing was up inside the salt ponds but mostly at night. However the recommendation to fish with Capt. Hines or Capt. Ray Stachelek is a great one for accomodating your needs while putting you in the action. Also talk to the guys over at Saltwater Edge in downtown Newport for the current happenings.
October is prime time for Rhody, good luck!
