wind roper i'm from south west florida and know the waters and the fish there very well. if you are new to salt water fly fishing stick with clouser minnows in light colors. tan and white is a killer combo and fished with a "twitch-twitch-pause" (6"-12" strips) you will do just fine, also if you are fishing a floating line try a gurggler(an interesting fly with a foam body) that the seatrout cant resist. dont worry about sinking tip lines all you'll need is a floating line if there's no chop or surface junk like floating grass, or an intermediate line to get below the grass or chop.
good luck!

DrFish Hi Sean,

Where on the west coast of FL? That's a lot of water to cover.

General comment - since you are a beginner, I suggest focusing on unweighted streamers rather than on the various crab flies available. The crab flies, and many of the shrimp patterns, are designed for use by people sight-fishing for reds and other species. Streamers will allow you to get out there and practice (practice is essential!) and still catch some fish.

Western Coast of Florida

Are there any people located on the Western Coast of Florida. If so please reply to this and let me know what kind of flies I should purchase. I am just learning to fly fish and would like to know what I need for here in the fkats and inshore about 10 miles. Thanks.
