RE:We've been SPAMMED!

Someone was carrying on about being a purist once by saying one needs to use Bamboo rods with Silk lines etc. etc. Then I think it was Geirach who said ..."of course to really be a purist you need to hit the trout over the head with a rock and bring it back to the cave and eat it raw..." I'm against sinkers because I hate poisoned ducks.

Hey Sully, let's see them flies. I tied my first ezbody fly last night based on a certain softex pattern I saw at the show (wink wink Juro). Fun.

RE:We've been SPAMMED!

I enjoyed your post, but was unsure how my reaction would be taken. As you know, I was just joking as you were (i.e.: "sacrilege") in your post.

I guess you could call me a purist of sorts, but not a snob. For instance, the reason I don't like the use of slinkies and strings of split shots in Upstate NY steelhead streams isn't because it compromises my personal opinion of "fly-fishing only" - it's because it prohibits real flyfishing where the angler swims the fly and works the pool, like Maine or Europe or the Pacific Northwest.

I don't impose my preferences on others but I sure try to convince people to try FF if they haven't, better yet get them enthusiastic about it. Some have even qualified as addicted.

One morning I was fishing the bayside flats with my son. We came upon a seasoned flyfisherman who had staked out the point perfectly as a pack of busting bass reached his spot. We pushed our way over, being careful not to crowd him. As he waved us over, I noticed something familiar about him. It turned out I had been his guide for the first time he had ever flyfished for stripers, and he had taken to it so well that he appeared to be the embodiment of this special surf creature we call a SWFF'er. I went over to say hello and offer praise, to which he generously offered "I had a good teacher" but I knew that was just an obligatory comment and that he had gained what he had from hard fought effort and intuition.

See you on the flats, Bill.

RE:We've been SPAMMED!

No you've sluguglyed. Far worse for a purist.

Actually I'm tying some real flies tonight. I'll try to post an image tomorrow. Since it's an attractor maybe the other flies will return to the roost. :-0

We've been SPAMMED!

Someone posing as SSully has spammed us by putting a sluggo into the archives. Flies were seen running from the archive, screaming. Deceivers were seen shielding the eyes of the caddis nymph from the view of rubbery raw sluggo flesh as they ran. Rumors of a 12" pink sluggo were heard.

Filmed at 11.
