NrthFrk16 If casting a long belly line on a shooting head rod...SA Mastery Spey/Salmon on a 1308 Scott SAS counts, then yes I have!

pmflyfisher Yeah, Ryan thats why I do over load the rod and get the job done.

Guess I am lucky I have not broke a rod yet with too heavy a line or sink tip, have you ?

You are on your way to having a complete setup for saltwater flyfishing...

To be honest with you...I throw the 500 grain on my 7 weight totally overloads the rod but it gets the job done!!!

Hey Sparkey,

Are you throwing the 500 grain head on your 8 wt RPLx-i or with a bigger stick?

I've got my intermediate head built (cut from a DT Cortland camo intermediate) and teamed up with a Cortland saltwater running line. Picked up both lines as closeouts direct from Cortland. Casts a great. Still need to do the floating head and then another spool with intermediate running line and several fast sinking heads.
