spaydoc I heard from the dealer today that there was a concern about the scuppers so Ocean Kayak recessed them on the bottom of the boat to cure the problem 1 1/2 - 2 years ago. They also offered me an extended warranty. Good customer service!! Thanks for the replies. I am going out in it to fish for some steelhead soon.

Nick Not sure about the Prowler, but I had a Frenzy that took a lickin and is still ticking (in Smcdermott's hands). Built like a tank!

spaydoc Thanks for the reply--I am 160lbs and not an agressive kayaker so I expect the kayak will be good. There is so much info on the net and one never knows what is real, what is a "legend" or maybe just a competitor spreading the "word."

GregD Hi Spaydoc,

I think the Prowler 13 is a great choice myself. I'd be surprised if you had a problem with the scuppers breaking through. I guess it depends on how much you running over sharp rocks and how heavy you are. It should be covered under warranty for awhile, if your really worried about it maybe you can get an extended warranty. I know some places that have repair kits for holes in the hull and it's not too hard to make repairs, so /I wouldn't worry about it too much. You might do well to limit your contact with the rocks anyway to limit scratches and gouges. I usually can stop before plowing into them by sticking my feet out and using them to stop when coming into shore for a landing.

Good luck,

Greg

Question about Ocean Kayak Prowler

I did some, but maybe not enough research, before buying a Prowler 13. Shortly after the purchase I was told that using them on rivers with any rocks is bad because the scuppers are vulnerable and the plastic is light. I live on a river with lots of rock and very light rapids. Is this a legitimate problem?? My other choice was a Wilderness Systems kayak so now I wonder if I made a wrong choice.

I also got a Native Ultimate 12 to play in with the dog and/or grandgirls and it seems perfect for that!
