I don't know what time your flight to Caracas would get in but if it is before 3.00pm then it is possible to fly to LR the same day.
Los Roques airstrip has no lights so it closes down when it gets dark. That means that the latest flight from Caracas is at about 5.00pm.
I have also stayed at a couple of hotels quite near to the airport and also some others in Caracas itself. Caracas is about one hours drive from the airport. I understand that it is not safe to walk the streets but the hotels are OK.
When you land at Caracas airport it is good to have someone meeting you who has arranged ground transportation, hotels, flights etc. I use a really nice Swiss-Germany guy called Hans- Peter Zing.
If you need details of any of this stuff, send me a PM.

organizing transportation to Los Roques..
How do you organize safe transportation to Los Roques. I heard that you cannot get same day flights from the U.S to Los Roques. I don't think that caracas is the safest city to spend the night in. So, how do you get to Los Roques? Can you recommend a hotel on the island. thanks. JWW

|Swalt||Pete, thats a bunch of trips to Los Roques. Never been there but have considered a trip. Don't know if you have made enough trips to the Bahamas to give a comparison but if you have, could you? I would love to hear what you have to say. Thanks Walt|

Los Roques, Venezuela
I have been wanting to write a report about my last trip to Los Roques, last October.
I went there, my 10th trip in about 3 years, with my friend photographer Jan Kristensen.
We did not hire a guide but rented a boat and boatman. I know these islands as good as, if not better than most guides.
I did not write a report because I was waiting to see if the article that Jan wrote would be published anywhere. It appears in this month's edition of Fly Life, an Australian fly fishing magazine.
I hope to get the report out in a few days. But in the mean time here is a little apetizer.
I'll call the report "Dry fly fishing for bonefish".
