Tube Flies

Dwight, I would strongly suggest that you pick up Mark Mandel and Les Johnson's book, Tube Flies: A Tying, Fishing and Historical Guide. The book covers a broad range of flies and tying techniques. I have been fortunate to take a tube fly tying class from Les Johnson that has resulted in me tying many of my patterns on tubes. It was exciting fishing for large Coho in the salt in Tofino when the Calamarko Pink Squid was the hot fly of the trip. Check the book out, your tying will benefit greatly.

Best regards, Steve

Charlie Dwight,

This thread has the pattern for the original intruder.

This thread has some creative intruders on it.

If you do a search on “intruder” you will get a bunch of info on them.

Hopefully this should help.

How to tie Intruder

I really like that Intruder, is there anywhere to get more info on it? I would not be able to use the eye weights on the front (that would be considered weight hew in New Brunswick) but the rest would be fair game.

Charlie Nice fly Brian!

This is one of my intruder tubes for winter fishing. Keep in mind that I have dressed it heavier than normal for winter fishing.

Orange Spey Tube

Here's an adaption of Glasso's Orange Spey with grey and orange Polar Bear. I sub'd for the Grey Heron and Orange hackle tips
Tube is an Eppendorf tube
Butt-silver oval
Body-rear2/3 orange floss ,front 1/3 orange Seal
Rib- oval and flat silver
Body hackle- grey Polar Bear
Throat- Teal
Wing-orange Polar Bear
Easy to tie and held up to sunlight REALLY glows
Any Spey fly can be adapted to a tube by substituting hair for heron. The Ackroyd REALLY adapts nicely to a tube and you can tie 'em down to # 6.
However on the Ackoyds I use Silver Pheasant as the wing.

Charlie square tail,

Any flies you can tie on a standard hook you can tie on a tube. Let me know what your favorite steelhead fly is and I can show you how to put it on a tube. It will take me a day or two to take some pictures but it is not hard at all.
