BigDave About the XP and Xi2: I have both and to me the XP definitely has a faster action. The difference is more noticable when your'e casting a floating line into a 25mph wind on the flats. The Xi2 has a little more backbone for tossing sinking lines and lifting fish (although I have broken a couple). Each line has a sweet spot and for me it's 8wt for XP and 10wt for Xi2.

SDHflyfisher the difference between the xp and Xi2 is that the Xi2 is built to fight fish better and has a stronger butt sections for big hard fighting fish and salt water

Trevor B Wish I could try both but that's not possible where I live , it's mail order or nothing here.
Hence the question as too the difference.

FishHawk Xi2 is a much faster rod. I would suggest that you try before you build. FishHawk

Trevor B Any idea how the Sage XP compares to the Xi2 ?

FishHawk I would use either a Sage, Winston or T&T . If you check the internet you can get a good deal on a Sage XP blank for short money as Sage has discontinued this product line. Hope this helps you out . FishHawk
