there's quite a bit about leaders here on the Forum. Just use the <SEARCH> function with "leader formula" and you'll get lots of hits.

teflon_jones I buy the tapered leaders and splice on more tippet with a blood knot when it gets too short. I start with 12 ft 7x leaders and use 7x tippet to replace what's lost.

I think most of us make our our leaders, and splicing on more tippet when the original gets too short is very common practice.

Google "leader formulas" and you should get lots of hits.

repair question

hello all!!! if i have a 7.5ft 4x 6.4lb tapered leader and it's getting shorter would i tie on 4x line, or change it for any reason. also do you always buy a pre-made leader or can you make your own.
