RE:Brewster Flats Allive!

The sandeels I saw were approximately 3 - 4 inches, and had an overall greenish hue to them -- darker olive backs with flashy green sides. I used an EZBody sandeel pattern, which worked well.

Hello Aaron;

Just how big were the sand eels you encountered? Can you give a description? I've seen large ones (7 inches, olive) and small ones (4 inches, dark blue).

Brewster Flats Allive!

Well, at least they were for an hour or so yesterday. I arrived at 6:30 PM and within a couple of minutes could see swirls from feeding fish. Amazing how hard it is get gear together when there are fish breaking within sight. Once out there, I cast to swirls and wakes and had fish on constantly until some time between 7:30 and 8:00 PM. Then things suddenly shut down. All were schoolies, but a lot of fun on the 6wt. Tons of sandeels in ankle-deep water. At one point I found and followed a large school of sandeels, and cast to the edge of the school when they were intercepted by stripers. That was a blast! Hopefully, the summer pattern is finally here.
