Certainly, and not only felt soles, but all items of tackle, should be disinfected. Canoes and the like must also be regarded as potential vectors. Thorough drying for 7 days is normally regarded as sufficient, but if there is any doubt, soaking in a solution of something like Virkon is normally suggested.

Here's an example from the River Tweed Commissioners of a declaration that fishermen may be asked to sign. There's some general information on this document, but googling gyrodactylus will no doubt give you more detail.

sluggan Hello Knut,

thank you very much for your info.
Heard yesterday the same from a friend of mine.
Hope that they will have at least success with the new treatment.
On my way up this summer I will have a look at the river.

Best regards,

knutalf There is another effort planned to get rid of the Gydrodactylus parasite this year, but as far as I have heard the river will be open for fishing. As far as I could see on the homepage of the local authorities fishing will be open this season, and I know that some beats are booking.

Laerdal River News ?

a friend of mine told me today that there are rumours that the Laerdal should be closed again this season.

Can anybody confirm or disprove this rumours?

Thanks a lot and TL
