Sorry; I didn't catch this post earlier. I contacted some folks I know who contacted VT on my behalf and they responded that this line has been discontinued (item# provided) and there was no data available. Based on your description it was the short head spey (vs mid and long). I requested 7, 8 and 9 which were the possible line ratings for this rod although I would tend to guess that the 8 would be the one.
Since dealers need the help clearing overstock you might find these lines for a song somewhere if you are interested. If it's too light you would have a problem; but if it's too heavy you could probably cut it back and re-splice to make a sweet little Skagit or Scandinavian style head; or cut from the middle and loop for tips, etc.
IMHO, this emphasizes the value of companies like Rio posting their grain / length information on-line.

Orvis Line for CND Custom 1308SP Rod
What weight Orvis Type 1 Short Head floating line matches well with the CND Custom 13-foot 8/9 rod? I am looking for the Orvis line weight designation rather than grain weight, though the latter would be welcome as well. I think the Orvis Short Head is akin to the SA Short Head. I posted this question on the Speypages as well, so if you have answered it there, no need to repeat your answer here. Thanks in advance for your help.
