sean Good looking fly and the 'racing' look is exactly what the old masters had in mind when tying this fly. They should not be overly full and yours looks great, especially for a first attempt. I would say yours is more in line with the traditional tie rather than some of the presentation quiality flies you see around today.,

Thanks It's great fun, just hoping I'm not devaluating these beautiful flies... Photos of flies can only say so much, but at least you have had the chance to evaluate my crossover hands on!

juro Great job! The Ackroyd is one of my favorites. Like the Speys, the Dees are a perfect combination of 'classic' and fish-catching appeal.

Akroyd - first attempt

Last winter was devoted to speys, and I got some useful feedback from this board. Now I have begun rampaging the dee style, and attached is a photo of my first Akroyd.

Anyway, I like the look of these flies. I have often seen theAkroyd dressed "denser", with a heavier heron hackle and longer yellow body hackle, but I tend to like a slimmer and "racier" look. I didn't have any really good black spey hackle that was long enough for this 3/0 hook, so I used the darkest grey heron hackle I could find in my box. So, if I do this right, a couple of photos will be attached. Sorry for the poor picure quality, my facilities for close up photography are somewhat limited and the digital camera missed the focus point

Edit: Managed to get some better photos!
