OGON Hey thanks for the reply. There's an awful lot to take in with this fly fishing game. At least I now know a little more about leaders and tippets. I'll put things into practice when I'm fishing for grayling at the weekend.

thanks again, OGON

Fly-Rod You are correct in the order.Tippets are the last part of the leader.

Leaders must ideally be tapered, so the force transition in the cast may allow your fly to land smoothly. Experienced fly fishermen build their own leaders, mostly with different widths of monofilament. Personally, I prefer furled leaders, tapered and made with 1 or 2 pound mono, knotless. At the end, you simply tie a piece of tippet material.

For some saltwater applications, there are wire leaders, basically used for toothy critters.

Hope this helps.

Leaders/tippets

Hi guys, I have started fly fishing in the UK and I'm getting confused about a few things ! One confusion is about leaders and tippets, are these one and the same ?
When fishing am I correct in saying that the reel has a backing, which is tied to the line, which in turn is tied to the leader/tippet, then fly ?

many thanks, OGON
