Ice in the guides, frostbite at least plausible on the toes, ice lining the banks, and yet trout were actually rising on the Indian Head. I don't know if they were rising *to* anything particular, I didn't see any bugs.

I caught 7 or 8 small small browns on a bead head bugger (one) and a zug bug (the rest) and sacrificed many fine flies to the brush and twigs.
