|bcasey||Craig, go to West Marine and bring your unit model # with you. Some units will NOT take Blue Chart, they will set you up and show you the areas covered by the chip that fits your unit. I'm not sure about Lowrance but my Raytheon uses C-Map. Check it out, you'll be surprised at the level of detail they provide, but don't waste your money until you know all the options. They are not cheap!|

I have a Lowrance LCX 18c GPS/fishfinder combo. It came with a map progam, chip reader/writer etc.... It sounds like I just have to buy the blue chart software. Where do they sell the blue chart software?
Thanks for the info,

The chart has to be compatible with the unit, Garmin uses blue charts, standard uses cmap.
I use the bluecharts and love it. I've heard great things about the cmap as well.
If you buy the software it allows you to work with routes and review trips downloaded from the unit. I went with Garmin - the bluecharts for ~120 and a blank 32mb chip for ~100, ~40 for a chip read/write unit, works great and the usb give super fast transfers. You could also buy the chip pre-written, not sure the pricing.

I hear some talk about Blue charts. Are they the charts people recommend? What is the price range for the blue charts?
