Eddie the Xi2 is very nice. It is NOT a "club". It is more akin to the XP than the Xi, with a little more grunt. What everyone has said is similar to my experience.
I would say that the Xi2 has a very possitive feel, and I think I would prefer it to the Xi for almost anything. I haven't cast the 11 weight and the Xi 11 is brilliant for tarpon.
The XP is nice too, but in a wind, or with bigger flies, the Xi2 has got it beat. The XP nine would do well in almost any flats condition.
The Xi of course would be on sale, and the 5pc is a very easy, powerful rod.

FishHawk You might want to check out the XP Sage rods. Sweet rods without the stiffness. According to Sage rep. Xi2 has more lifting power than the XP. So if you not going to do a lot of boat fishing with sounding fish take a look at this rod. The T&T Helix rod is also in the class . Sweet rod without the stiffness of the Horizion.
Just my .02 from test casting these rods.

juro For a single handed bonefish rod I love my 5-pc 8wt RPLXi. Won't be replacing that one anytime soon.

Flats two-hander is in field test currently

gammarus Yes I'm looking at travel rods, that's the only reason I was interested in the Xi2. I love the RPLXi and own4 of them. But with all the hassles involved in travelling, the 4 piece is looking nice. I just bought a 9'5"-4 LOOP blue 7/8 weight for bonefishing on foot. It's not a Saltwater model but I like the way it casts. If I like the Xi2, i'll slowly start switching my Xi's over.

juro IMHO....

They are both fine rods, I like each but for different reasons. Where the RPLXi had a real sweet spot (3-pc) and loads on auto-pilot the Xi2 has serious power and lifts line + throws laser loops with more authority.

Where shorter line flips and instinctive reactions are more likely to be successful with the RPLXi, line speed and reach are more likely to be achieved with the Xi2.

Of course these subtleties may cancel out depending on who's hands the rods are in... and I am comparing years of dedicated use of the RPLXi against a brief interlude with the Xi2 at fly shows... but I believe this comparison to be true for my way of casting.

I was also very impressed with the T&T 9wt at the show. Are you looking at travel rods?

RPLXi or Xi2

I'm buying a 9 weight soon for my trip in may. I'm trying to decide between an RPLXi and an Xi2. The Xi2 seems alot stiffer than the Xi, almost uncomfortable in the hand. Although I haven't cast it yet I get the feeling it may be a club. Has anyone tried both rods?
