From the same craftsmen who make knock off AK-47's...

I like epoxy...
These resource managers are lightly spring loaded closed and hold material as depicted in the photo. They don't roll around and can hold the fly until the epoxy sets up...A nice 3rd hand!
I got them from the local Ace Hardware store for $2.50 each...found in the small "sponteneous gotta' have" bins near checkout...

Seems like everyone mentions magnet

But I like the little flat plastic TAPE magnets. Neat part of these is that they can be stuck to your bench, and are unobtrusive. I just can't do without one of these.

flytyer 2X4's that have holes drilled in them to hold all my bobbins, these are placed at the back of the tying table. Also, my multiple hair stacker that a machinist friend made for me years ago that stacks 7 separate bunches of hair at one time.

gstrand Thanks! I racked my brain to find a nice piece of solid wire that would be sturdy enough to bend, but not bend, and stumbled on the knitting needles while looking for magnets... another cool thing is they're anodized, so they look good, to boot!

Beautiful Work

The bench looks great....I love the idea of using the knitting needle as a drying rack. Good Job!!!!

Clothesline, magnets and cork...

I recently built this one for myself, based on a few criteria:

One arm on the left side, for tools, not to clamp a vise on. I use a pedestal vise and am left handed, so an arm on the right just gets in the way.

The holes have to be big enough to accommodate my new wasatch tools. The tools were a gift from a great friend, and are beautiful... the old tying desk made from closet rod and left over countertop was done for the second I saw them.

Some way to keep spools of thread and floss on the table and organized, but no rods sticking up to get bent or broken if this thing gets put in the closet or in the trunk, or wherever. I created a channel at the top...

Magnets to keep my hooks from ending up in the kids' (or worse, SWMBO's) feet, and a "clothesline" that won't get bent to dry flies on (bent knitting needle worked great.)

Here it is...

John Desjardins Three things. The magnet glued to my pedestal for hooks, the plastic shopping bag hung on the vise stem for trash & a piece of foam for finished flies.

loco_alto I have a cheap wooden bodkin around which I glued a narrow strip of velcro - perfect for teasing out fly bodies.

Tool / Gadget Poll

I am wondering if you could have any gadget or tool at your bench besides the essentials, bobbins etc.. What would it be? Does it exist? Is there something that you've made at home that you feel is indispensable? Personally the simple magnetic hook keep on my benches are my savior. As a boy my mother scolded me many times for having hooks in the rug. Sounds like it might be cool to hear what everyone feels is the best tool / gadget or what they think would be the best tool / gadget.

Thanks for the input folks.
