flytyer MCorder,

The advantage to using the hackle as legs is hackle is a bit stiffer than the dubbing fur; therefore, it stands out better from the body when fished and gives a better illusion of life than picked out dubbing. Hair legs applied with a dubbing loop are a different story because they are made from guard hairs and they stand out even better than hackle fibers. It is much harder to produce the hair hackle for most people than to use a wound hackle that is figure eighted with the dubbing. You could even use rubber legs, hackle stems, tying thread, or dyed dacron backing for the legs, these materials just don't have the same illusion of live when in the water and tumbling with the current.

Question about Tarcher Nymph's

Looking at the tieing instructions for this nymph it calls for a feather wrapper in a figure eight pattern. Is there any advantage to this over teasing out the dubbing to give the effect of legs??
Just wondering...
