Be careful or you too will succomb to the Freudian members of S.O.F.T., also known as Intruder madness!

Yes it really should be SWOFT but that did not have the Freudian overtones I was aiming for. :hehe:
One wonders if those that fish those super long intruder patterns might just be trying to compensate for something else.
Oops, I just remembered that when I was up north last month, I fished a 6" long articulated double tube creation. Maybe I have picked up a touch of intruderitis as well. I better put a size 6 Sealy into the vise quickly before I get really sick.

Hey, I just tied some Sol Ducs and Orange Herons this week. But I got my grubby little hands on the first three years of fish and fly. I've only looked at the issue with Ed Ward's intruder. What size of lead eyes should I use? On attaching the trailing hook, I assume the insulation is just to keep it steady and trail straight behind. I've snelled hooks into similar arrangements that held there place behind the fly, will this be OK or am I missing something?
Thanks for your input. I'm ready to start my addiction.

Sinktip and Sean,
There is hope that others will alos not succomb to the madness of S.O.F.T. (Steelheaders Only Fishing Tubes). Black Scamp, Orange Heron, Sol Duc, Sol Duc Spey, Ally's Shrimp to the rescue!
|11-03-2003 07:53 PM|
Shouldn't that be SWOFT? What do you suggest Sinktip as an option?
|11-03-2003 07:35 PM|
If you outlaw intruders, only outlaws will have intruders!
It is time we rebel against S.O.F.T. (Steelheaders who Only Fish Tubes) and their Intruder conspiracy and return to the days when a nice normal sized prawn pattern worked wonders. Black Scampi anyone?

It ain't the size that counts!!!!!
It's all about presentation and skill.:hehe:

Russ I am still hanging in there. This winter I am going to fish the ally shrimp and a dark traditional squirrel wing wet pattern and thats it.
I just gotta get to the runs before the intruder guys cause they are either going to hook a fish or scare them to death:eyecrazy:

Look at all the fine folks you have infected with INTRUDER MADNESS. Soon speys, dees, G.P.s, marabou spiders, and Ally's Shrimps will be runing for their lives in fright!

Couldn't find any copies of Fish and Fly so I'm heading down to Bothell to pick up 3 years of back issues. Figured it would be worth getting the whole shooting match instead of just Winter 2002 to read Ed Ward's article on the intruder. Didn't want it sent because I didn't want to wait. That's what doing a search on intruders got me and reading your posts. Acting like an addict already and haven't even tied one intruder yet. I called and they will have a package ready for me by Monday.

Original on Hook
In fact, Ed Ward, one of the original designers, ties on hooks.

|flytyer||The Intruder pattern is found in the forum. If you can't find it in Steelhead flies, search the archives. And it doesn't have to be tied as a tube fly.|
