Wading in Key West

Believe it or not, I am getting sent to Key West for Business, won't have too mush time to mess about, but hoping to wet a line. Time and Money constraints prohibit a guide.
Let's put it this way, i'd rather have a new rod than a 1/2 day guided trip. So, I have been led to believe there is no
real wade fishing to be had in KW, is that the truth? I have reserved a rental car, so I will be somewhat mobile and could drive a little ways. Anyone have any tips?

Please help...The hotel I am staying at does have a beach, so I guess that's always a possibility early in the A.M., but I doubt that's very fishy..

Dave
