Philster To improve your hook gap you might try inverting the hook, like a clouser. I shouldn't talk though, I tie lots of big fish flies with hooks that are considered "too small", so I often suffer from "micro-gap". Just can't stand the look of a 2.5 inch fly on a 2/0 hook...

Do you tie in something to keep the tape from twisting?

I guess you can always put the tape on so the excess is on top & tie accordingly.

Very cool.

The lead tape has a very sticky back to it, stays where you put it, does not require tying it, but it has to be Epoxied

Are you using mylar tape over the lead or is it just the epoxy which gives it that reflective look?

Thanks Dave, just colored markers and Epoxy.

Tied these two, using Lead tape for the bodies, the top one is tied on a Mustad 34007 #4 the other is a # 8.

Someone mentioned that the hook gap on the smaller of the two flies is narrow, so on the next few that I tie I will increase the hook gap.
Any comments ????
Joe
