Antique Hardy rod?

I just purchased a 12' Hardy Composite fly rod in very good condition and researched it on the Hardy web site. It seem it is 115 years old. Now I'm wondering if I should use it! If it is a valuable antique, I don't want to risk damaging it. It has had a few inches broken off the tip & been nicely repaired. It most likely has been re-varnished a few times. A well used rod, but also well cared for. How do I go about finding the value of this rod without actually offering it fir sale?
