Venture I never fished the Varzina, but I have fished other Russian rivers like the Varzuga, the Pana, the Litza and the Kharlfofka. Some of the best flies on all these rivers are the Alley Shrimp, the Willie Gunn, the Black Dose, and the Mickey Finn. I found that the Russian river fish love bright flies. The Alley Shrimp and the Mickey Finn....satisfy the bright flies, and the Dose and Gunn satisfy the more mutted and dark flies..... The water conditions at the time of year you will fish will determine the sizes. These patterns also can be tied on tubes.....small and large.....which is another popular ty on the those rivers... Hope this helps.

Fly patterns for Varzina in end July

Hi there,

This summer I will visit the Varzina Trout Camp, in week 19 or 20. I will go for trout but also for salmon which reach the area as well. I was wondering whether you have had any experience fishing up there, and if so, which patterns worked well for you.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Viking
