juro Either hothouses or south america, but they were g-o-o-d (and cheap)

Also the wild sockeye is still coming in real fresh over at Costco... they start to run in June as well. It's gotta be a late sockeye year, which might factor into the fewer larger coho reports from the Olympic Peninsula (ocean currents shifting etc). I think I will vaccuum pack one for a mid-winter treat.

(Good to see that wild sockeye ranks low in the toxin chart)

jimS It is probably my all-time favorite veggie. Where can you get it this time of year at $1.99/lb. I used to grow it, until I started SWFF, and could get it thru the end of August. Try it sometime with pan-fried slivered almonds. I'm always amazed how fast the asparagus pee vapors appear.

wrke It must be in season somewhere, but not around here. Our asparagus season is from about mid-April to early June. But, it's an incredible veggie . . . we can hardly wait each year.

In Season... "spear grass"

Asparagus is a great veg choice to accompany healthy main dishes. Having just purchased some for $1.99 / lb I assume it's a high supply time of year for the growers. Steamed, grilled or stir fried - it's good stuff and very good for you as well:

(Look at that potassium level - good for fast reflexes! set that hook!!)
