peter-s-c I imagine that most long rod users do the same thing -- when first stepping in the water, shaKe out a little bit of line and fish the waters directly in front of you. There's no reason not to fish short with a two-hander.

If you want to specialize in short fishing becuase of the rivers you frequent, then a relatively short, light rod with a quick, light to (for easy, quick loading) coupled with a blunt tapered line like a Rio SSH or a tips line with the tip removed, can fiunction very well as a short range nymphing rig.

the short water game...

Does anyone have any tips for fishing short water? How well does a spey setup work for casts that are about 20 feet or so? I don't have a spey setup yet. I hear about how far you can cast a two hander, but nothing ever about short water control. Any advice, stories, and tips are welcome....
