Given a choice between the two reels that you have mentioned, I would opt for the one that can handle the heavier range of lines. In bass fishing, it's not uncommon to overline the rod (for example, an 8wt line on a 7wt rod) to help loading and casting bigger flies.
Since bass will rarely if ever get onto the reel during a fight, you shouldn't need to drop too much money on a reel. Sophisticated drag systems for these fish are not necessary.

Help with Reel choice.
I have a St Croix Avid 7 wt rod that I plan on using for Bass. I was thinking about getting a St Croix Imperial reel to go with it. They list the I75 (line 5/6/7) or the I95 (line 7/8/9) reels. Any comments about wich would be best for my 7wt rod. Since they can both be used for a 7wt are there any issues with balance, performance, ect....
Or can anyone recommend a reel that will match up well with the Avid?
