NrthFrk16 I have played around with St. Croix and the DS. They are both good rods for the buck. The DS is a faster rod but the Legend is a smooter casting rod with very nice compents and a great asthetic value.

If you are looking for a rod for the species that you mentioned in the price range of these rods you can not go wrong with a 1087 GL3. It a #7 9' rod and can outperfom the DS, SAS and Legend. They arent prettier rods but I have caught more steelhead and salmon on my 1087 then any other. It can cast huge indicators and flies and 400 grain sink-tips no problem.

anybody compared this rods?
looking particularly 7wt for summer-run steelhead and some versatility (trout, little salmon species)
