This poll is intended for those fly fishermen and women who tie on a fairly regular basis; I leave it to the discretion of the individual to determine whether or not they fit into that category. Just trying to get an idea of how much is spent on average on tying materials on a yearly basis. Please take into account cost of every material, including hooks, used.

I think I'll be in the $1000+ next year, particularly after we've moved South. :whoa:

John,
Thanks, but I just deleted the entire thread; this one is the updated version, so it can be left as is.

thank goodness the poll isn't asking " What do you think the dollar value of your current flytying inventory is...?" I shudder to think.

Yes I shudder to think what the value of the fly material inventory is and worse should my wife find out.:whoa: :whoa:

John

Good idea but I don't think she even looks anymore, unless I am stupid enough to run up a big bill on the credit card bill which sees before me. Otherwise I do small ($20-30) cash purchases every two weeks or so under the radar screen at my local fly shop.

This and golf are my only two vices right now and compared to her girl friends, who have husbands with drinking problems, cheating on them, divorced, or just don't work, I am looking real good with just my fly fishing and golf vices. :D

Plus I don't even buy liquour much anymore except lately with ultra light spey rod dilemna. You know the I'm In Love" thread on the board.

Goodness me... you mean to say that there's actually someone out there that ties regularly and spends less than $100 a year?!? What's your secret? Geez, I think I spend about $100 on hooks alone, the prices they charge for good stainless steel these days.

Hal I've got to agree on the girlfriend stories. They help out a lot at times. :D Lets let the rod discussion die.

Flyfisha1, If you are a good scrounge & limit your tying to a 4 or 6 paterns you could tie for a year on $100. Its people like myself who want to tie 6 or 8 of 30 different patterns that rack up the cost.

It appears that the poll has concluded; very interesting results. Exactly 1/3 of those who voted spend over $500 yearly on fly tying materials. Of those that spend this amount, I wonder how many of them tie as a source of income, and how many are just tying "for the halibut".
