Pattern
Rainbow Streamer
Thread: Black
Hook: standard streamer or salmon hook
Size: 6-10
Body: rainbow chenille, leave several strands as a butt wrap forward over body
Under wing: several strands of pink super hair or equivalent
Over Wing: badger
Optional: prism eyes
When: late spring, when many steelhead or resident rainbow fingerlings are present.
Species: use for resident rainbow, brook, or brown trout who will be preying on the young steelhead. Adult steelhead will also take it especially males when in aggresive pre- spawning mode.
Technique: Dead drifted until 1/3 through drift than start providing a little action to it with mends or your hand to simulate struggling young steelhead or resident rainbow trout. Leave hanging at end of drift and twitch and drop back once or twice. Many times they follow and can be brought back to it.

Thanks Hal, I really liked this one. In fact I exercised the meister rule & kept it for myself. I wonder if I sent the cheese fly to Fred ... I can't remember.

John, no problem they are such an easy pattern to tie, if you need some more let me know. Find some natural badger and you are on your way. The pink super hair could be substituted with pink dyed squirrel tail also.
You can tie that in a real small pattern for stream trout. I use to fish micro white micros, black nose dace, and muddlers for the Catskill browns on my beloved boy hood rivers. You know the ones I am talking about.
Thanks for work as the swap meister also.
Hal
