We had an awesome Saturday in the Monomoy area with our dad this weekend and a big thank you to Adrian for the gear loan - he put it to good use.

We started at first light (kind of) in the southern area of Monomoy and got dad into his first schoolies. We saw a ton of schoolies and a few larger fish. They were more tight lipped than we have recently experienced and sparse seemed to work best.

From there we headed out to more open water and had some fun with smallish blues which seemed to be everywhere busting under terns.

The same blue leaping at boatside.

From there it was off to the rip. We misjudged the timing and we had to wait quite a while for it to set up so we passed the time with lunch, naps, and some schoolies. When the rip set up it was AWESOME! I can not believe how big the waves were and the size of the area it covered. I have never seen it like that - must have been the extra high and low tides. A special treat was watching school after school of blues "surfing" in the standing rip waves - they were a bit of a pain though when trying to get down to the striped ones. We caught a lot of stripers and blues but not many really big ones - a few just keepers, a 32 incher, and one break off (not a cut off - dad couldn't bring himself to give the fish line).

We are proud to report dad got his first keeper on his first outing!

The fruits of his labor.

The flies for the day were the flats sand eel and the jelly belly deep eel for the flats and squid in pink and orange for the rip.

Nice job guys - another cold water purist tainted!!

What a great day, you guys are really getting the most out of that boat.

Let me know when you need me to come along & freshen the pogie oil supply that Juro depleted. I just got a new case in.

The oil donation would be nice. We ran out and had to filet a few of the blues and drag the racks behind the boat. ;)

Congrat's to you guys, awesome report! Wish I could get my Dad out and get him into a keeper. He doesn't fish at all, but I bet he would be hooked ;-).

Very cool to get your Dad hooked up like that - wish I could do the same.

Well done guys and glad to hear the gear held up! Great pictures. Your rip report confirms the need to check height of tide in trip planning. Not that it's a bad place to go on a light tide, but there are lots of other very interesting opportunities to check out down there whilst waiting for the main event to fire up.
