Can anyone recommend a reputable tarpon guide for the Keys area? I've heard some horror stories and want to avoid same.
Thanks,
Vinny.

Capt. Ben Iannotta is a really great guy and will do everything he can to get you on fish. I fished with him last year and had a great time. Cannot wait to go back....
He is also a friend of the forum which is another plus.

You may want to call Paul Tejera. 305-852-7888. Been down there a looooonng time.
Vinny -
I'd call Ben Ianotta for a resident flats guy who is dialed in to what's happening. Besides, his Hewes flats boat is a classic. He was approached by an older gentleman one day while in his boat. The man seemed to know quite a bit about the boat. Well it turned out he should - it was Mr.Hewes!
You're lucky to be going to fish the keys, best of luck fighting the silver king!

Thanks guys. I've booked Ben (owing to the recommendations) for May 31st. As this may well be a once off (hiring a guide, that is), I'll be sure to bring a camera.
I'll post photos and notes on the trip when I get back. Even if I don't land anything, I'm sure it'll be a great experience.

Let us know how you make out... I am also going to the Keys early Sept. on my (gulp) honeymoon. Will be looking for a guide for a day. Sept. 3rd.

If you are looking for only one day, Capt. Duane Baker might be open. He is among the best in the Keys. His # is in the Orvis catalog.

No problem. I'm assuming that your wife to be also likes fishing - or is that an issue? Hah!
I'll post any info I have when I get back.
Thanks again, everyone for the advice.

I booked Ben Iannotta based on referrals on the web including Juro. Plus he e-mailed back with some good info and sounds like a good guy... ie) won't get too mad if I hook him in the head.

Well, if he has an eye-patch by the time you get there, chances are that I may have been at least partly responsible ... assuming of course that I haven't strangled myself with the line before then.
