Dble Haul

Hook: Size 2
Thread: Mono
Body flash: Flat silver tinsel
Underwing: White Super Hair
Wing flash: Silver Krystal Flash with a few strands of lavender Super Hair
Overwing: Light blue Super Hair
Eyes: Prism stick on
Gill: Red Sharpie marker
Head: Epoxy, two coats

This fly is tied with the standard method for a Surf Candy pattern. The first coat of epoxy should penetrate the Super Hair fibers at the head and set the overall shape. The eyes and gills are then added, and the second coat is applied to seal the deal. Remember, itís better to go a bit on the sparse side with the Super Hair as opposed to too heavy. Baitfish have a natural transluscence and a sparse tie imitates this well.

This fly is very good locally on the Connecticut River when the blueback herring run is on. Stripers gobble these baitfish up, and the blueback candy does a good job of imitating the juvies. I tie them long so that they can be trimmed on the water as needed.
