Hopefully this is posted in the correct forum...if not, oops. Salmon Trout Steelheader is the magazine I am wanting to get a back issue for. Mr Amato's staff cannot help.

The issue features a very lucky steelheader on the cover. He's moustached, in retro rubber waders, holding a nice fish and a glass metal-ferruled rod, with a Penn type reel very low on the corks, a la centerpin style.

I will trade 50 (fifty) sockeye/pink/steelhead flies on Eagle Claw 1197N hooks, for a ppd copy of this issue...no coupons clipped, no pages missing, cover there, but need not be on. Dog ears, tears, etc. OK if everything still there. Thanks in advance. KD
(edit add: size 2 LazerSharp Eagle Claw 1197N's.)

If you can supply more info I might have a spare copy (have most of them from the '70's and 80's).

ie: roughly what year was it published?
was the cover in colour or black and white?
are you the person on the cover? or? are you/he identified in the magazine anywhere?

Hi, Poul.......The cover is in colour. I am not a player in the mag. As to the year of publication, whenever Mel Kreiger's Club Pacific was 10 years in operation. I am guessing late 70's early 80;'s. The magazie is hybrid. Photos are on glossy stock, and text on almost a newsprint stock. I have a friend who has a friend (no names)*grin* that may have a copy...and if so, I'll post as soon as I know. Thanks...KD

I'm pretty sure the issue you're looking for is Feb-March 1978:

"About the cover: British Columbia angler with a 30 plus pound steelhead taken quite a few years ago. Notice his rod-reel combination. Photo by Byron Nance."

Nice fish and nice rod -- looks like an old 60's era custom made Arding or Richmake.

I have one copy of this issue in pretty good shape except for a subscription mailing sticker on the front cover.

I'm little reluctant to give it up, but if you're just looking to reproduce the front cover I might be able to have it scanned or?

Perhaps Amato can find a copy if you can tell him this is the one you're looking for.

Rodger that, Poul.... that indeed is the issue....Thanks very much for the date info. I'd contacted Mr. Amato some time back, and it's Murphy's law....when they moved from one office to the other backthen, they turfed all the unsold back issues !!! Karma. They were unable to help. Now that the date is out there, perhaps another reader of the board has a spare copy. Thanks again. KD

PS: the Northeast brothers Ken and Jack as at last year were still producing Richmakes. I get my retro ferrules from Ken. kd

PPS: If you turn to page 31 of this issue, you will learn all. I have a photocopy of this article. But I wanted to get the mag for continuity.
I did have a copy once, but the married readers with children no longer living at home can relate to this: Sez wife: "Dad won't mind....take it" Of course dad never learns of the deed until he goes to look for the object of desire proxied out of the house !!!! Then when dad approaches offspring he gets: "O yeah...I lent it to Sam" and of course Sam plays dumb. and it's all over but the crying. :-)
