: Hoping for the best

My dad had been short of breath in the past few weeks and went to see his doctor. He had a stent placed in his heart a few years back, and a stress test has just revealed that things are getting bad again.
Two of the arteries in his heart are 90% occluded and angioplasty could not be performed. He will have double bypass surgery first thing tomorrow (Wednesday) morning at Maine Medical Center. It's a common procedure (more than 600,000 are performed annually in the U.S. alone), but it's feeling very different because this time it's my dad.
I'm asking you to keep him in your thoughts and prayers. No one in this forum has ever met my dad, but he's my favorite fishing partner.
You can be absolutely sure of that Mark.
It's certainly a tough thing to go through but if it helps I know several people (some very close to me) who've had it done and I noticed very quickly that they have a new spring in their step, good color in their face, not to mention a brand new lease on life. I guess what I am saying is that from what I've seen it's a very positive thing and given the need to make that choice I would do it without hesitation.
Our thoughts and prayers are with your favorite fishing partner, I look forward to meeting you both on the water next spring.

I'm not in tight with the Big Man Upstairs but I'll do what I can - let us know when he gets in the clear.

My father -in-law had a quad and a co-worker had a 5x done at Maine Med and both are doing excellently. They do good work there. That's where Ian got his care also.

Don't know you or your dad, (not personal like anyway) But I do talk to the Big Guy fairly regular. So I'll lift up your dad and hope that things go well Wednesday, Im sure they will, sounds like a good team there in Maine. Just remind him He's still got fish to catch! Proverbs 3

several times above is "tried and true."
Dad will be fine .... but I will take no changes on leaving out a huge amount of Prayer. Prayer does work.

Faith is a funny thing, we often need to understand that we aren't in 'control' but yet we gain confidence. Mark, my thoughts and hopes are with you and your dad. Sounds like both of you have a great best friend!

Mark, Hope all goes well (I'm sure it will). Keep us posted and let your dad know that we're all pulling for him. I know this is easier said than done, but try not to let yourself get too upset -- the stress does nothing to help and can only make you feel worse.
