Any suggestions/recipes for making your flies weedless?

I use a 50 mono loop. Attach it at the tail of the fly before you start tying. Leave it hang while you are tying. Connect it at the head of the fly when done. Couldn't be easier. Works for when I am casting to redfish on grass flats.

Jeff do a search on the topic. I know it's been discussed before. For freshwater I use a double guard of 20# maxima, tied in at the hook bend & eye.

The other thing in weeds is to use a knotless leader.

Try an inverted fly with a bucktail collar a la Flip Pallot's "Prince of Tides" - one of my goto flies.

Good luck.

Jeff -

This might help as an alternative method.

Bend the hooks with two pair of pliers about five degree upward to give it more snagless action. Place one pier on the bent, one near the shanks.

Jeff,

Try the mono loop as suggested by Capt. Gordon. For freshwater sliders, poppers, etc. I now tie a loop on each side of the hook and tie them in together at the head. I find 30 # is a little easier to work with but still stiff enough to fend off the weeds. If this works on my home bassin' waters in the pads and slop, it's got to work in the salt.
