Kings are in - Northern LP Rivers

Some decent early king salmon fishing is available this weekend in the Michigan northern lower pennisula rivers per my sources.

Slow on the southern rivers. Some skamanias but they are scattered water temps are still to high. Would be worth while for you to try the surf and river mouths though into Lake michigan.

Not much going on in Wisconsin rivers yet either.

Try and get out this weekend, or at least start tying your king patterns since within the next two weeks they and the skamanias will be into all of the rivers.

If you don't fish we can watch the Big 10 and HS football games and of course ND which kick off this weekend.

SE Wisconsin rivers are almost there. I watched a large king do what I thought was sipping flies off the surface for 2 hours this morning. Do they do this? I can't imagine a fish that size getting nourishment off midges. Maybe he was just pokin his head up to put the evil eye on me.

No they do not take dry flies, but do brooch the surface to get air when they are on their spawning run. With this cool front and some rain coming in it should really get the runs going in southern michigan and wisconsin.

Prepare for battle with the king size chrome warriors.

They have really been hitting them up on the northern rivers the last week in Michigan, 20-40 fish on days, landing maybe 2-4 of those. Ahhh those are such great memories. Me and my buddy once had 50 chrome kings on one rainy day and lost all of them !
We were two beaten. rain soaked, but happy men walking out in the national forest that day.

We said to ourselves, who needs Alaska. :chuckle:
