Hi folks,

Just starting to plan a little vacation with the family to the coast before school starts and wondering if anyone can recommend any good campgrounds in RI for me?

The discussion about tunoids and kayaking has got me thinking that I might actually be able to catch one of the things when I really would not know the difference between a false albacore and a bonito if you handed one to me. :chuckle: As such, I have a bunch of novice questions about them like- Will a striper/bluefish rig do for them? What kinds of patterns should I tie? Do they really make good sushi?

Thanks for your comments.

:) Hi Geoff, I will try to help you. :D First there is a couple of camp sites very close to the fishing, if you plan on fishing the areas from Point Judith to Westerly. Burlingame, and Fisherman's Memorial. You might check www.riparks.com I think they will have something about camping in RI.
Fishing: I haven't been the last two weeks, but in the evening last tuesday there was some fair size bass taken in one of the breachways. I haven't got a fresh report. I will be going down next week myself, I want to see if there is any false albacore around, I don't know of any being caught with any regularity yet. I personally enjoy catching them. Most say they are not fit to eat, others like them.;) You can use the same rod, and reel combination as you would for bass, or blues. Be sure to bring bunny flies, of various colors, chartreuse, and white.
You didn't say whether you are shoebound or are bringing a boat. If bringing a boat just be careful this is a rocky area.:eyecrazy: mostly. If shorebound there are areas that false albacore come in to on an incomming tide. West Wall, Quonochotaug, Weekapaug, and they sometimes run along Napatree Point. I will to keep you informed as to whats happening when I know when, and if you are coming.
I hope this helps a little, any questions, anything I can help with send me either a personal message, or e-mail. If I say too much the threads seem to stop.:D Tight lines, ArtB

is my destination. Thanks for your suggestions Art. I plan on coming during the last week of August leaving again before the holiday weekend. Hopefully will still have some nice beach weather for the family. It sounds like the fishing picks up in September so I am looking at this visit as a scouting trip. Check out the area, find my way around, determine where the spots are that I want to come back to and fish more :) .

I will definitely be bringing the kayak- it's nice to be able to get around and explore a bit with it.

I will definitely check out the website you suggested. Thank you. It sounds like there are a number of motels in the area as well so may split our time up a bit that way

I'll be in touch.
