It doesn't look like much, but the results have made this one is a favorite of mine, for bass & panfish.
Hook #6-12 streamer, a 10 here
tail: brown maribou
body: silver embroidery floss
wing: brown maribou
collar & head: Deer hair tied sparse & cut short
Dress it with a floatant and work it on the surface or fish it as is and it very slowly sinks.
Now that you've gone and mentioned Embroidery Floss AGAIN :tsk_tsk: I have a Copper or Gold Embroidery Floss idea for the brown body :smokin:

Dave, I knew you'd notice that. :hehe: Yep the copper or gold would be a good match. I've also tied this pattern with a violent fluorescent pink wing & tail. It worked well in a honey hole of large mouth I found in a nearby river earlier this week. I just gotta get a canoe to float that river.
This fly would bring out the beasties in large trout and steelhead, particularly out west. Gold highlights work well for those preying on fall caddis, I use gold in all my steelhead sedge patterns which are primarily size 4 or 2.
Riffle hitches make them ride atop the fast water which brings out a violent reaction from salmonids under the right conditions.
Juro I was thinking the same thing. Steelhead would love it. Will tie some up tonight and see how the cowlitz fish feel about them early in the morning on Sunday.
Nice work John,
Link to the sedge muddler, steelhead cousin of this fly...
