Brand new in the case w/ sock. I never casted the rod it was a gift. Plus I have a sts 8 wt already don't need 2. $200 plus shipping gets the rod.

That's a sweet deal! I am overloaded with 8 and 9 wts at the moment, but someone is going to be a lucky buyer.

What kind of action is it? I'm actually looking for a 7 wt. but if it is on the lighter end of 8 I could be interested.

Lefty,
I've cast one of these 8wt at baymen outfitters. Sweet indeed. Super light in the hand. Maybe it's that spigot ferrule but it really casts smooth. I wouldn't call it a fast (stiff) but it puts out a decent cast with very little effort.

I'm new to fly fishing and looking for a 9wt for stripers. Is this rod to light for stripers/novice fly caster?

Truth be told, an 8wt is light for surf, rips, ocean boat use, etc. But it's fine for the places most cast a fly for stripers. A 9wt would be a better all-around tool. Sometimes you want a 10wt. I tell my better half I need them all! ;)

If this is in your price range you should consider it a damn good option. If it's your first rod for stripers, consider yourself lucky.
