fyi
If successful possibly could be used on many NA rivers with dams and andramous fish (salmon/steelhead trout).
Any one heard of this before ?

pmflyfisher, it sound interesting and i hope it will work. Here on the Columbia they barge smolts around the dams, I had an interesting conversation with an employee at one of the dams and he is convinced that the smolts can go through the turbines and 95% will survive!!!!. thats a new one on me,tight lines, brian

I recall seeing a report at the Wild Steelhead Coalition web site that smolt and juvenile mortality through the Snake River dams' turbines was 85%. Since there is no way the present administration will allow the removal of the dams, I earnestly hope a way is found to save this great fishery before they reach the point of no return.
Personally, I believe this approach is someone's pipe dream and simply another delay. Hey all, we working real hard to find solutions - Yeah, right!

It kills me when I see statistics like that saying the majority of the smolts survive the dam turbines. I wonder what SWAG methodology and empirical data bases they are using to come up with those ?
Just does not sound logical to me.
