I will speak with Keith tommorrow as well as Juro... Looking to Friday and/or Saturday of this week... who can go?... you all know this is weather dependent and the wind is a big factor... also..have not looked at the tides so a mid-day low is what we hope for.. I will check. This is not a sign up just an an early bell.. After I speak with Juro and Keith will post sign up... If we have more people than can handle one trip we may be able to do two... one on Friday and one of Saturday...

I'd be interested in a trip for Friday, Saturday or both (assuming I can find somewhere to stay in chatham).

Saturday would be my first choice (have to feign some attempt at work Friday  ) but, if it comes to the crunch - Friday it is!

I have been wanting to go on a Rip Trip for some time. Would be able to supply 2 people for a Friday the 5th of July outing. Let me know the details on how to sign-up and where to meet.

With Tyler, that's 10 people. Now we need to make a commitment.

(1) Be aware that if you commit you will need to be able to go either Friday or Saturday. If Friday is cancelled by Rip Ryder, people will be expected to be available for Sat. You will have to pay either way ($30)

(2) In the event of weather that prohibits a safe return by boat, you may need to walk up to 8 miles to the inside pick up point. This has happened one time. I caught some nice fish on the way north, wasn't too bad.

Should be perfect timing, lots of fish on the outside rips, dog days have arrived inshore, etc.

Too many other things going on for me to manage a one-day trip to the Cape. Guess I'll have to try to make Rip Trip #2.

Anyone know where I'll be able to sign up for this trip? Leaving work and the computer behind at 2pm for the holiday. Will I be able to contact the RipRyder directly or is there any other way I can still be involved in this adventure?

Stop by and say hi if you're out there. I'm the 6'4" dude with a black sims cap and red sunglasses.

Happy 4th to all!

Not sure what our status is, but looking at the trusty Eldridge Guide:

High Tide at Monomoy Point (how much closer can you get?)

Friday 08:35 a.m.

Saturday 09:30 a.m.

Outgoing almost from arrival to departure both days but the tides are nothing to shout about (8.4 ft on Friday 5th vs 11.3ft on the 13th). According to Eldridge, when the High Water height is below 11ft, the current strength is reduced by up to 40% at 8ft. That means much less impressive rip formations.

Last year I was lucky enough to make the rip trip on two successive days and the difference in rip strength was incredible. On the Sunday we were wondering if the rip would ever get going whereas the previous day we had a good 3 hours of strong water movement.

Those are good points Adrian... But I was thinking we try and squeeze them in when we can...Spoke to Keith this morning and he can do both Friday and Saturday....but I need to speak with Juro and get a list together..Juro handles the paypal thing..

I should have mentioned that there is more to the rip trip than thr rip! Heading back up the beach on the inside there is great flats fishing and heading in the other direction there is surf, drop offs, humps and all sorts of good structure. It probably averages out to1.6 miles of beach per angler! :D

I may actually be able to go, but have to check with the activities coordinator first.

OK..here's the latest... Keith can do Friday and Saturday...so we go with Friday first...bad weather we go saturday...If we go Friday and then a different group can go Saturday.Juro may do a sign up sheet...but for now we have 10 people... However .we may not do the paypal..so I Will need FIRM COMITTMENT either tonight or by EARLY tommorrow night... we will need to pay Keith $300 one way or another so anyone that bags out will leave the rest of us to fill the gap...so right now I have 1) Juro, 2)Tyler, 3) me, 4) Craig, 5) Shadfreak,6) Grego, 7) Adrian, 8)Big Dave, (9,bCasey, 10)Jamuelho.. You NEED to let me know if you are not in.. Departure is 7 am, pick up is 4 pm... water, food, insect spray, cell phones , and the rest of the usual stuff you need for a full day on the beach...common sense also for other things you want to bring... walkee talkees would be good so we can keep in touch with stays out there or signal fish situations... I have no idea what the fishing is like down there now.

.....and most importantly, how happy you look at the Rip Ryder pick up point, knowing that you don't have an 8 mile "death march" ahead of you.......

Now thats my type of fly fishing trip inclusive of "The Death March"
some of fellow anglers have accused me of this on great lakes steelhead trips. And on a beach makes it even worse.

Use to do a lot of running and walking on NJ beaches.

If any one can do that with his waders on they for sure are in the
"Iron Man Fly Fisherman" category. Don't think I could do that.

Is that Rip on the Cape ?

If anyone needs someone to "buy them out" on short notice, just send me an email or give me a call (508) 380-8890 - I might be able to bail you out.

Looks like I'm in for Friday!

Since I have never made one of these before. I assume we meet at the Causeway at 6:30-6:45?

Also, JohnM & Juro, could you PM me your phone #s. I dropped my cell-phone in the Drink & lost your numbers from memory.

GregO.

The two of us continue to be "in". We will be at the Causeway at 6:30am. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Looking at the pictures, it appears that people brought coolers on a previous trip. Is the drop off and pick up in the same place and do people generally fish in roughly the same area? Never fished with the option of a cooler stashed on the beach before and given the heat, it sounds like a way to fish in style.

I would not bring anything I could not carry for 8 miles in case of a problem. A small lightweight cooler with blue ice is about all I would bother with, or real ice since it can be jettisonned as water if needed.

The initial walk is about 1/2-3/4 mile from the drop off, so you wouldn't leave your cooler at the drop off.

Pack light, but make sure you have everything you will need for an 8 hour shift on an uninhabited island in the hot sun. Plenty of water, sunscreen, food, etc.

You'll need a hi-density sinking line, except for a few minutes during the change intermediate is ineffective and a floating line is useless.

It should be an objective for all of us to help even out the success rate among the ten of us even if it means to rotate people through the best part of the rip (and we *DO* know where that is), coach them on technique, etc. It will be unacceptable if a few take advantage of previous knowledge of the sweet spot while others go fishless.

It's an amazing piece of real estate out there and the seas are really something to see in that state of transition. It's more often than not that big fish come to the rip, and we have as good a chance as any to make good tomorrow.

Looking forward to it!

Was going to take Grego's place but looks like I will need to be back here mid-afternoon - truly a bummer.

I still need to fish, so if anyone's going to be up around PI, I'll be there.

Damn. I missed it. Took off for Monomoy at 2 on Wedesday and missed the signup. Anyway, had a good 4th on the flats and look forward to the rip trip reports.
