What scale and type/brand of charts do you use? Was thinking getting a Maptech chart.

I typically use Waterproof Charts, scale as dicated by the area I'm fishing; I find that they're quite detailed, certainly enough for me, anyway. One option you might look into is SoftChart, which is software used to view NOAA charts. You purchase a set of charts for a local region on CD, for about $40, usually, and get between 30 and 40 NOAA maps of that area (which otherwise vost $20+ each if you buy them as actual paper charts). The software comes on the CD. Then, you can print the charts and areas you need on normal 8.5x11 paper if you like. The cool thing about the software is that allows you to zoom in or out, move from chart to chart easily (and without huge pieces of chart paper), and it also calculates distance along a route you intend to travel, even with entering waypoints. We just picked the software up for the laptop we have on board our cat. Of course, we always have backup paper charts as well as GPS, but the Softchart saves us the trouble of messing around with multiple maps and saves quite a lot of money.
